In just a few weeks the clocks will go forward and the days will become lighter, longer and brighter (hopefully) . But for now the rain just goes on and on. It feels like the Winter has gone on forever ! </p><p>Sadly the bad weather has prevented me from going out on my walks. The paths are waterlogged and quite impassable . The countryside around me is one big muddy quagmire .</p><p> After fracturing my ankle the other year it's probably left me a bit over cautious but if I can't walk then I can't paint ......"sigh" .<br /></p><p>To cheer myself up I'm busy planning some new paths to explore . There's always a sense of excitement wondering what new views I will find to inspire me .<br /></p><p>I've already painted a couple of Springtime pictures from my walks last year . Those wonderful days when the the air is filled with scent and birdsong . Days of blossom and fresh green leaves ....perfect ! </p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjumPHcZTQXzemOX_1PHZ_KFCNn3_Cmq_CHWi65dwpsH3y1qeeuQGVwk3FIZAeJVX0v5AhhME-aBKeiZWP4kUZ4nlkft3o-O8YWTEDAvEPW167_RnLG4SYauMJRLvhG1FDrXnnVhlW-OhcKHbV8RigozQfVuNX42uLV8z0NuOR9gZT1yn_1_ht7pLI3KxnW/s1270/blog.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="584" data-original-width="1270" height="184" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjumPHcZTQXzemOX_1PHZ_KFCNn3_Cmq_CHWi65dwpsH3y1qeeuQGVwk3FIZAeJVX0v5AhhME-aBKeiZWP4kUZ4nlkft3o-O8YWTEDAvEPW167_RnLG4SYauMJRLvhG1FDrXnnVhlW-OhcKHbV8RigozQfVuNX42uLV8z0NuOR9gZT1yn_1_ht7pLI3KxnW/w400-h184/blog.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Springtime paintings <br /></td></tr></tbody></table><p>The first is from a very pretty and very old bridleway on the outskirts of Newick village where I live. It's a lovely walk at any time of the year, but when the Bluebells flower it becomes just breathtaking ! </p><p>The second is from a walk around the Ardingly/Balcombe area. It was a new walk for me and although it was extremely muddy in places I found some beautiful paths to explore .</p><p>The Art2Arts gallery have kindly included me as one of their Artists of the month , here you can view more of my paintings <a href="https://www.art2arts.co.uk/paula-oakley?fbclid=IwAR1JfKW6_an7-yI4BhzeI26YaGWHe9quWs6Gy2H1Zk7RtkLuxYIa3iPQ4GE" target="_blank">Art2Arts</a><br /></p><p><br /></p>Paulahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16661944216331270977noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3218334210502968803.post-91193077089977804392024-02-19T06:31:00.000-08:002024-02-19T06:31:51.715-08:00<p> I feel like I'm sneaking in like a naughty child ! Ha ha! </p><p> I had hoped to start posting more reguarly this year but it just hasn't happened . Best intentions and all that. </p><p>I'm blaming the weather, wet dreary weather, it makes it very hard to get out and about . The footpaths are flooded and so very muddy ! </p><p>I've been relying on my reference photos from last year to keep me going with my paintings . It's not a bad thing as it means I get to revisit the wonderful views and glorious sunshine of the South Downs and the footpaths around me . <br /></p><p><br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsRJa8sIn9FCp8Bd5ZKzz1X8OWN-6m30Tr5q6wvvVEpeg3oUiL0C_e1OY23mEyv_I4gXhoX9pKN1aMDQueQ4zAPaI-w6Wf4ld6plcCDK8yqqXbFQJbqSuB_h3xiF-cRdPOInsb5m8c6y1qJzv8mXgVVn0HmBjtLzSJIUvgEffmOQqLWQMWrpiSvfnfD_Us/s1064/blog.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="720" data-original-width="1064" height="271" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsRJa8sIn9FCp8Bd5ZKzz1X8OWN-6m30Tr5q6wvvVEpeg3oUiL0C_e1OY23mEyv_I4gXhoX9pKN1aMDQueQ4zAPaI-w6Wf4ld6plcCDK8yqqXbFQJbqSuB_h3xiF-cRdPOInsb5m8c6y1qJzv8mXgVVn0HmBjtLzSJIUvgEffmOQqLWQMWrpiSvfnfD_Us/w400-h271/blog.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The three paintings that I have completed so far this year<br /></td></tr></tbody></table> I'm also busy planning new walks and places to explore .......I just need some sunshine ! <br /><p><br /></p>Paulahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16661944216331270977noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3218334210502968803.post-25389264814222716222023-11-23T08:47:00.000-08:002023-11-23T08:47:50.861-08:00<p> It was mid July ....then I blinked and it's now November ! Ha ha, I don't know what happened but the time has flown by ! So what have I been up to ? <br /></p><p>Well, although the Summer started off well the weather soon turned rather dreary for the rest of it.</p><p> My walks have been shorter this year and I decided to do more exploring of the access land on The South Downs . It turned out to be a good idea as I've been able to view the surroundings from different angles and discover more wonderful scenes to paint. </p><p>The Hawthorn berries especially looked good , bright splashes of vivid red lighting up the grassy slopes as in my painting below. <table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx3aznmeWOn2iCjV0oLFc9_0ennpwqcnJ2TlDLdVDY94dEuk31anERfghZgwDywVQ6zMd4uKJairxuaehTa3DMrVTp80UEvhAIIdlyjXoaLDbdmSXSSB_gYr-ByP0crUzZDoqY07byo1FGzOCYXgOPxhyphenhyphenq83Tjjwi8A8NixmYteI1nYTgdYC9nq-7t1zFk/s3967/CRBeaconBlazepok2023.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2964" data-original-width="3967" height="299" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx3aznmeWOn2iCjV0oLFc9_0ennpwqcnJ2TlDLdVDY94dEuk31anERfghZgwDywVQ6zMd4uKJairxuaehTa3DMrVTp80UEvhAIIdlyjXoaLDbdmSXSSB_gYr-ByP0crUzZDoqY07byo1FGzOCYXgOPxhyphenhyphenq83Tjjwi8A8NixmYteI1nYTgdYC9nq-7t1zFk/w400-h299/CRBeaconBlazepok2023.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"> "Beacon Blaze" <br /></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><br /></p><p> </p><p>Summer ended and Autumn opened it's door . This is the time when bonfire night celebrations start and also time to dress up and enjoy the fun ! My costume is a celebration of Autumn . It was all about experimenting with different fabrics and paints . <br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGyPUMqnjqw72ZN1O7XU6dT2TNVyBzugBQM7Ly1NxFzRK3-2LZAObCRpM4-YDjQcARwkj0w26Odm9bD14kSubAlezIeXCn7twaiGZ8tOJaWA1pEJZFgBd02cx31Bio_9TmU2PrWedQbzftmbTfUnC6GAjEYe7cilafxk2RjlmLc7YRJZDwN98xUspLvuCs/s2048/396737918_829709969159941_4604282789016219591_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1356" data-original-width="2048" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGyPUMqnjqw72ZN1O7XU6dT2TNVyBzugBQM7Ly1NxFzRK3-2LZAObCRpM4-YDjQcARwkj0w26Odm9bD14kSubAlezIeXCn7twaiGZ8tOJaWA1pEJZFgBd02cx31Bio_9TmU2PrWedQbzftmbTfUnC6GAjEYe7cilafxk2RjlmLc7YRJZDwN98xUspLvuCs/w400-h265/396737918_829709969159941_4604282789016219591_n.jpg" width="400" /></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9WT8oOgV3dTC7Q_n3uo512vRCEYqQZ50u6crcZIqCZ0B37DoFimXYGkFkzEaGkS6yk-Ynd6DwCkeHOt_BVoxQddDUCQD7dbzLkB7qWWTTT-sSp-GofR2L2-sdSlI3e_5YyEUehpXRawR5OGvUJdld5___L1PVrmP0jg04mI1Nt1nFLgMxgELNpEdNE7wd/s3063/DSC06592.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2342" data-original-width="3063" height="245" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9WT8oOgV3dTC7Q_n3uo512vRCEYqQZ50u6crcZIqCZ0B37DoFimXYGkFkzEaGkS6yk-Ynd6DwCkeHOt_BVoxQddDUCQD7dbzLkB7qWWTTT-sSp-GofR2L2-sdSlI3e_5YyEUehpXRawR5OGvUJdld5___L1PVrmP0jg04mI1Nt1nFLgMxgELNpEdNE7wd/s320/DSC06592.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLDRvzqVSPgw7O4-KnHFG6s-Ksy0xyYgC2z4N-dk-xf9mmVrI7WEbob9mnqfoVULArxdgtfvleK5iyN-Qisgln36qHmhLD4muvZKalFMaKptS2mJ5hkP34e-PMZuT2dl75rcOYa56f-aURV94GE04Mm9ui1F0qVksGxeO6gBr4gDB1jiwXhirnrPwDkTEb/s3456/DSC06583.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2974" data-original-width="3456" height="275" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhLDRvzqVSPgw7O4-KnHFG6s-Ksy0xyYgC2z4N-dk-xf9mmVrI7WEbob9mnqfoVULArxdgtfvleK5iyN-Qisgln36qHmhLD4muvZKalFMaKptS2mJ5hkP34e-PMZuT2dl75rcOYa56f-aURV94GE04Mm9ui1F0qVksGxeO6gBr4gDB1jiwXhirnrPwDkTEb/s320/DSC06583.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEin98zYu9MGgqawDM1bTQ9GZuWmTowuqhSgf6OqoP91VPM2ou2JMVlkaXgFC_dwpBI-OvKgiWNIUqb0NfB_uoBPbtX8B9OVlUBN1cowbNZWcQakqSNcD_bmotNiQC3YLkH8iFf4u2RK9RR-glt7inX_sUI91FICS7wAfpUgUAKxCtQetEzYoF-ZXiH0hEzw/s2794/DSC06578.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2794" data-original-width="2309" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEin98zYu9MGgqawDM1bTQ9GZuWmTowuqhSgf6OqoP91VPM2ou2JMVlkaXgFC_dwpBI-OvKgiWNIUqb0NfB_uoBPbtX8B9OVlUBN1cowbNZWcQakqSNcD_bmotNiQC3YLkH8iFf4u2RK9RR-glt7inX_sUI91FICS7wAfpUgUAKxCtQetEzYoF-ZXiH0hEzw/s320/DSC06578.JPG" width="264" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAgFK5dS1SJ2osLqaH7CZUTovHxhciKLw164yXTu8elnYOTeBROTQtvV7YWAutxT6z6bFaBe0r5Q2HHOKssl6nB2Ri9kV3oF7w4OJ17zWoA41Ks3cz3wdHn_2JFShzvAk1MKPVGDo2aZh9ZnUys53G1aI_QyINPCTwDjMB-k7d1DsGA0uM9QQ4aYyAso5R/s2661/DSC06576.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2661" data-original-width="2387" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAgFK5dS1SJ2osLqaH7CZUTovHxhciKLw164yXTu8elnYOTeBROTQtvV7YWAutxT6z6bFaBe0r5Q2HHOKssl6nB2Ri9kV3oF7w4OJ17zWoA41Ks3cz3wdHn_2JFShzvAk1MKPVGDo2aZh9ZnUys53G1aI_QyINPCTwDjMB-k7d1DsGA0uM9QQ4aYyAso5R/s320/DSC06576.JPG" width="287" /></a></div><br /></div>It was a brilliant evening, our village always puts on an amazing event and it was good to be part of it . Well it all starts in the comfort of my home looking at maps of places that I'd like to explore . <p></p><p>I look for places where I will get good views or a selection of different things, woods, fields,ponds etc. I then work out the distance to avoid walking too far and also find where the bus stops are if I'm using public transport. Finally I go on Google maps and find the spots where my path crosses the road. I know that may sound a bit over the top but it really helps . Sometimes a path isn't very clearly marked and I end up in a different place than I expected. Recognising something from Google maps reassures me that I'm going the right way ! I also take a paper map with me, I know that there are many walking apps but messing about trying to look at a small screen really isn't my thing and some places you can't get a connection . A proper map is so much easier and gives a lot more detail. </p><p>The next thing is checking the weather forecast. I don't mind a bit of rain or moody skies but my paintings rely upon sunshine , shadows and clear views . In order to get good photographs the weather has to be good. (There are times when I'm out when the skies cloud over and my heart sinks)</p><p>I always work from my own photos. There are many artists that work from other peoples photos ( with consent from the photographer) but I think that the most important thing is about the composition, the person that took the photo creates that and working from someone elses picture means that the most creative part has already been done . I do understand though that not everyone can get out and about so I'm always happy if someone wishes to use photos from my walks <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/138021407053592" target="_blank">https://www.facebook.com/groups/138021407053592</a><br /></p><p>On my walks I take about 200 photos , if I'm lucky I will get just 2-3 that I think would be good to paint. Actually being at the places and soaking up the atmosphere is just so very inspiring ! I can take elements of things in the area and incorporate them into my artwork. Things like the wildlife and flowers . </p><p>Finally I return home and eagerly look to see what I have managed to capture and the clarity of the photos. I can only paint what I can see and working in detail means that I need to see as many of the fiddly bit as possible ! </p><p>I'm off now to put my walking boots on .....happy days ! </p><p> <br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Paulahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16661944216331270977noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3218334210502968803.post-72163623855731585822022-12-30T00:03:00.003-08:002023-01-20T05:27:52.448-08:00<p> AUTUMN PAINTING </p><p>It appears that my desire to walk and paint is still stronger than to write about it ! Ha ha! Keeping up with my Blog has not been as often as I intended ! I think the problem is that the internet can be all too time consuming and before you know it you've lost half the day. </p><p>Anyway, life is good and I've enjoyed many walks this year discovering new places and paths. </p><p>I was sad to see the Summer end but waited eagerly for the Autumn colours to arrive. But it was a long wait and the trees were reluctant this year to change and drop their leaves. It resulted in just small patches of colour over a long period of time. I searched various paths looking for areas where the low sunlight broke through the trees. It was not as easy to find such places as I had hoped. I discovered some wonderful woods and found the perfect bridleway not far from my home ....</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCLQeYAO99oz0vTXRgg3G3qkTMocsWP975Dvn76jLbq4vcZDkN7-cTF1uZxxDNN76Lnbnvqs4fIDr4OjL5DSSWWGDYfJsCo8sAgmKz6hRIOszB2tJgRN5h5MpfTUGl6s3vigUQRuN6JGSc7DwzDSbwmlPs6GSD6NTJVkjMO4MpW5KS3TYY9yxoD6K3Zg/s4301/JPEGwoodlandcr%20pok22.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3214" data-original-width="4301" height="299" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCLQeYAO99oz0vTXRgg3G3qkTMocsWP975Dvn76jLbq4vcZDkN7-cTF1uZxxDNN76Lnbnvqs4fIDr4OjL5DSSWWGDYfJsCo8sAgmKz6hRIOszB2tJgRN5h5MpfTUGl6s3vigUQRuN6JGSc7DwzDSbwmlPs6GSD6NTJVkjMO4MpW5KS3TYY9yxoD6K3Zg/w400-h299/JPEGwoodlandcr%20pok22.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Along the Woodland Path <br /></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhri_RPIAqftOsdGhJBpQEZsqBG8j7QrR0ztkuKXN-B99A15fwFVT_10qx2rjgWA4Pu_h9PVgYv9FimJcg7YdOw4S_xKmQjQWALbAn_9EwrTlxUI1Ws0-xAeX1Xk7uGLYY6edlXuYqqWBL3Yb6azjaYfrwKc3ndFDlWLnQGVovnpNyAtTeA_AikWmcIWA/s2614/woodlandcrpondPOK2022.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1946" data-original-width="2614" height="297" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhri_RPIAqftOsdGhJBpQEZsqBG8j7QrR0ztkuKXN-B99A15fwFVT_10qx2rjgWA4Pu_h9PVgYv9FimJcg7YdOw4S_xKmQjQWALbAn_9EwrTlxUI1Ws0-xAeX1Xk7uGLYY6edlXuYqqWBL3Yb6azjaYfrwKc3ndFDlWLnQGVovnpNyAtTeA_AikWmcIWA/w400-h297/woodlandcrpondPOK2022.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The Woodland Pond <br /></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxS1_Kbnh36yaGZP845YDAIrByK69ONsSe3PGC9awgQRGxJNstrcq5iE2O0pTCRi1tX-DIbGcRWX354vzft0MlKDOLNqWp986ErZj2iAU58jUsZ0FGWi1J6T79gqa8OgnpVfCYetR0fXQFFXJhxhsslsDcwsqHoLKxGxCfVETCiNul13Pe0LdRUXSLvg/s3580/CRBridlewaypok22.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3580" data-original-width="2653" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxS1_Kbnh36yaGZP845YDAIrByK69ONsSe3PGC9awgQRGxJNstrcq5iE2O0pTCRi1tX-DIbGcRWX354vzft0MlKDOLNqWp986ErZj2iAU58jUsZ0FGWi1J6T79gqa8OgnpVfCYetR0fXQFFXJhxhsslsDcwsqHoLKxGxCfVETCiNul13Pe0LdRUXSLvg/w296-h400/CRBridlewaypok22.jpg" width="296" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The Autumn Bridleway <br /></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p>December arrived and still many of the leaves hung onto the trees . It's been a strange one this year with so much uncertainty with the Covid virus still around. </p><p>I wasn't able to get out very often so I had to make sure that I made the most of my walks and choose the places that I thought would be best for painting and give me a variety of views. This I decided would be The South Downs. <br /></p><p>In the height of Summer I headed off to Beddingham and Firle. It was a hot sunny day. The paths were filled with wild flowers and butterflies and the fields full of golden crops and sheep grazing at their leisure. Perfect! <br /></p><p>I knew it would be busy on the South Downs Way at Firle beacon so I walked up Beddingham Hill and set off south towards Newhaven . I was greeted with stunning views towards the sea . From there I headed back north to Firle beacon . I really couldn't have made a better choice for a walk ! <br /></p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlz1UFo3KtWlLM3tenuIifCdHFRr2sXLEIY58YxwBx3ZMXWv9u_RptIOpSaZuTVNgKpwXDwewuY25n4cJm81qAENZtE36NtBodJTGXiGc79X3WgoTXkdWJlgbbbeyYDF2pWNsTM5u2mBo/s1372/bolg1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1048" data-original-width="1372" height="376" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlz1UFo3KtWlLM3tenuIifCdHFRr2sXLEIY58YxwBx3ZMXWv9u_RptIOpSaZuTVNgKpwXDwewuY25n4cJm81qAENZtE36NtBodJTGXiGc79X3WgoTXkdWJlgbbbeyYDF2pWNsTM5u2mBo/w493-h376/bolg1.jpg" width="493" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Beddingham to Firle walk <br /></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><p>It was an inspiring day and I returned home with plenty of wonderful views to paint ...</p><p> <span style="color: #134f5c;"><b><span style="font-size: medium;">"Downland to the Sea" </span></b></span><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ16WLfR0ucAG3BYBaGu8O3rHbr_UDzzCjdmBBlL6kN4lCBLtzjf61tSn5Q0yPdrNTwD8GOp72W015eED4OmK8xd607irCMjlpu78gl8grMk1W3zMiluXYLq2F_nVifHtfo5ARLclvsNA/s762/bn1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="567" data-original-width="762" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ16WLfR0ucAG3BYBaGu8O3rHbr_UDzzCjdmBBlL6kN4lCBLtzjf61tSn5Q0yPdrNTwD8GOp72W015eED4OmK8xd607irCMjlpu78gl8grMk1W3zMiluXYLq2F_nVifHtfo5ARLclvsNA/s320/bn1.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><p></p><p> <span style="color: #134f5c;"><b><span style="font-size: medium;">"Golden to the Sea" </span></b></span><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiu9YEw3ywRv8vTY9-7W-TQSrDD_Zw-sMAoqgyUQIUf47UjxYyHCCDlEtfQluXrHX4zK4I1Uqk5VEB7XmBoLJD7h_1dyhj9KAE_aC-j2V9IKhhy8r4xF8zKXA-5P-9RdG8WnsPvn2pt0T0/s754/mn.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="568" data-original-width="754" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiu9YEw3ywRv8vTY9-7W-TQSrDD_Zw-sMAoqgyUQIUf47UjxYyHCCDlEtfQluXrHX4zK4I1Uqk5VEB7XmBoLJD7h_1dyhj9KAE_aC-j2V9IKhhy8r4xF8zKXA-5P-9RdG8WnsPvn2pt0T0/s320/mn.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><p></p><p> <span style="color: #134f5c;"><b><span style="font-size: medium;">"Summer Heights" </span></b></span><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1PSaIrT57l32QNhjtu91EecNVTB3OpLaMZOGAPjvgQlcCHkStKwSdhzvxeRFNkL4WQuC5Ge_6A7XRtw3AHOPE6Y67BA9rwpiHvZUrYtBBPPIdQLHB2rX2oPU-X1D9Io3tSHASpsWzL6o/s757/nk.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="568" data-original-width="757" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1PSaIrT57l32QNhjtu91EecNVTB3OpLaMZOGAPjvgQlcCHkStKwSdhzvxeRFNkL4WQuC5Ge_6A7XRtw3AHOPE6Y67BA9rwpiHvZUrYtBBPPIdQLHB2rX2oPU-X1D9Io3tSHASpsWzL6o/s320/nk.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><p>I am very happy to say that they have all found new homes.</p><p> <span style="font-size: medium;"><span style="color: #6aa84f;">****************</span></span> <br /></p><p>My second main walk took to to Ditchling beacon and along to the windmills at Clayton . Goodness...we never expected this! I do hope that you are all keeping safe and well in this crazy situation !<br />
<br />
So along came the Spring and I found myself to be a landscape artist in lockdown . This did not go well for a while . My paintings depend upon my walks. Paths that I could no longer explore .<br />
<br />
Thankfully Spring meant the arrival of the Bluebell season. I am very fortunate to live in a village surrounded by some beautiful woods that were all within my allowed daily excercise area..phew! They certainly helped to save my sanity and kept me painting .<br />
It was all very touch and go for a while though, especially as art materials became harder and harder to obtain. <br />
Here is my Spring collection .....<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfsm5E2IWdmulRR9_9Efhyha-fMeEs9dFOtApdnWgH9Qv2QVWxDupCzFYxsvyeNFpiWcLGhT4ryT5jgrXxSVQ_zxsuDuQF2FCXOJBzyC9eQvU-gcTmSWtPt1eVhifXoQKsTTYwysln5yw/s1600/image.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="978" data-original-width="1349" height="462" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjfsm5E2IWdmulRR9_9Efhyha-fMeEs9dFOtApdnWgH9Qv2QVWxDupCzFYxsvyeNFpiWcLGhT4ryT5jgrXxSVQ_zxsuDuQF2FCXOJBzyC9eQvU-gcTmSWtPt1eVhifXoQKsTTYwysln5yw/s640/image.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"> Springtime Paintings 2020 </td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Now things have eased a bit I can go further afield . This is good news, but I don't drive and I have no wish to use public transport yet . I needed a plan, something positive to focus on .<br />
The sun arrived in all it's glory and the amazing weather was far to good to miss, so with the help of my husband I have been able to get to my most local part of The South Downs. <br />
It's a beautful area where The South Downs Way winds it's path along the slopes and panoramic views over the Sussex Weald are a delight to behold. <br />
Perfect weather ...... perfect views !<br />
So my plan now is to capture some of them on canvas and wait and see how things go over the next few weeks .<br />

Autumn seems to have arrived late this year, rather like me keeping up with this Blog ! Ha ha!<br />
I don't think anyone really reads it but it's good for me to be able to look back at my artistic journey. To see what does or doesn't work .<br />
I'm still out walking and posting pictures from my walks on my Facebook page here <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/138021407053592/" target="_blank">https://www.facebook.com/groups/138021407053592/</a><br />
I'm also still busy painting and posting my works in progress on my art page here <a href="https://www.facebook.com/POakArt/" target="_blank">Paula Oakley Art </a><br />
<br />
My Autumn quest started several weeks ago, I was looking for something a little different, a bit more challenging. My travels took me to Ditchling Beacon on the South Downs just as the sun was starting to fade away. The soft evening light was just wonderful , creating a blend of peach and purple hues.<br />
These were new colours for me to explore . I liked the idea of focusing on the South Downs Way sign post as it gave a good sense of direction to my painting<br />

Oh my! What a Summer! All my plans went astray! Trying to coincide weather, destination and transport failed! To most people this would be trivial but for me as an artist it has been very frustrating! On the other hand it has made me think. It's the first time in 10 years where the pictures in my head have not been obtainable . It's made me realize how easy it is to get stuck in a rut...the easy option. I've had to think harder to get what I want.<br />
My first exploration was to Ashdown Forest. A wonderful area where the author AAMilne lived and wrote his Winnie the Pooh stories, Sounds great but in reality there's very little to offer an artist. Few focal points. So I explored. Heading to the village of Nutley I followed a path that lead me to the old mill stream, it's heritage from the iron works of the Sussex Weald. It was amazing! The tree lined stream, leafy reflections mixed with the glowing orange of iron ore was amazing!<br />

Well here I am right in the middle of the Summer.<br />
As a landscape artist I should be in my element......but I 'm not!<br />
I'm surrounded by beautiful countryside and wonderful beaches, so many places that I wish to walk, so many views that I want to paint.<br />
It's the weather that frustrates me so much. Each time I venture out to explore, the clouds appear, the light dims and my quest becomes futile. Yes, there have been some wonderful sunny days but they have either been far too hot for walking or I have had other commitments .<br />
(I don't drive and as the busses are so few and far between my trips need planning in advance . I can't just jump in a car when the sun comes out. )<br />
<br />
So I sit here at odds wondering what to do .....<br />
I make so many demands on myself ...<br />
perhaps too many ?<br />
Should I persevere ? Change my artistic direction? Explore new ideas? <br />
It's hard to think clearly when your head is full of clouds and your journey ends in disappointment.<br />
<br />
I did manage to get to the Lewes Downs on a day when the sun broke through . It's a stunning area in the Summer . There is such a vast array of colourful flowers and so many beautiful butterflies and insects .<br />
A frenzied dance on a warm scented breeze. ...<br />

The "Sun" is for sunbathing.<br />
The "Salt" is for the tattooed sailor .The tattoo says "sink or swim", which I felt was very apt in regards to the fragile state of the pier.<br />
The "Seaworn" refers to the West pier ruins<br />
<br />
<br />
For now though I shall go back to watching the weather forecast ...<br />
back to thinking....<br />
thinking of what to do .<br />

I live just a few miles from the town of Lewes. The county town of Sussex.<br />
Situated within the slopes of the South Downs it is steeped in history and wonderful architecture.<br />
Over the past few years I have painted 2 of the views overlooking the rooftops<br />

This time I wanted to paint the castle and some of the surrounding buildings. After much thought I decided on the view from the Mount near the Priory ruins. No one really seems to know what the mount actually is but there are some great views from the top and further information about it here <a href="https://roundmoundsproject.wordpress.com/2016/10/05/the-mount-lewes-ancient-monument-medieval-fortification-or-garden-feature/" target="_blank">The Mount, Lewes</a><br />
I went up it last year but unfortunately trees obscured the view . However on a recent visit I noticed that the trees had been felled ....happy me! The view was just what I was hoping for! It took a lot of work to paint but I enjoyed every brush stroke .<br />

My oh my! Where did April go? Spring has suddenly arrived in all it's glory!<br />
My painting World has so busy with artworks selling before I've finished them! This means I've got a bit behind with my blog and have little to add to my online galleries. I'm not complaining, life is very good, it just seems that I can't paint fast enough and feels a bit overwhelming at times !<br />
Anyway, April arrived and I waited enthusiastically for the trees and hedgerows to burst into leaf and colour.<br />
My first walk was along the footpaths between Scaynes Hill and Danehill. A pretty walk of woodland and open fields. It also took me over the Bluebell Railway line , I arrived just as a train passed by.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

</tbody></table>
<br />
A little further on I came upon a stream at the edge of the woods. It was such a pretty place that I decided to stop and have my lunch there ....it also became the subject of a painting...of course...<br />
<span style="color: #134f5c;"><span style="font-size: large;"><b>"Woodland Spring" (sold) </b></span></span><br />

<br />
Then the Easter Bank Holiday arrived and in just a few days the trees and hedgerows burst into leaf<br />
and the Bluebells were a mass of scented blue...heaven !<br />

Oh my! March has been such a busy month! I've been decorating the house and Spring cleaning so you can imagine how delighted I was to see the sun shine and escape to the South Downs for the day.<br />
I reached Blackcap at about 8am, such a wonderful time of day to be up there...just me, the Sky Larks and the wonderful views ...bliss! The track west over plumpton Plain looked like it went on forever!<br />

As I approached Ditchling Beacon my solitude came to an end as the dog walkers came into sight. I now had to share the rest of my walk . The car parks at the beacon and Clayton windmills mean it's easy walking for those that don't want to wander far and threrfore this area is very popular .<br />
Heading west I stopped at the dew pond for my lunch. A lovely spot where the windswept Hawthorns stand defiant by the still water of the pond. The reflection of the blue sky made it all look quite surreal!<br />

It snowed! Nothing like the rest of the country had and most had melted by the following morning !<br />
That's very typical for here and we probably won't see any more. Oh well, maybe next year.<br />
As a compromise we went to Ashdown Forest in the hope of catching a good Winter sunset.<br />
There, to our surprise there were still patches of snow lingering on the high ground ....happy me!<br />
The sunset turned out to be rather amazing as well....<br />

Just as the sun started to sink and before the sky turned red, there was a glow over the forest which to me seemed rather magical and a great scene for a painting ....<br />

Goodness! It's been soooo long since I've been here!<br />
Christmas arrived and brought with it a rather unpleasant flu virus . No painting. No walking .<br />
It's been a frustrating time but now at last I'm happily back on track.<br />
The year has got off to a good start with 4 painting sales and the Winter weather is finally arriving....HURRAY!<br />
I awoke last week to be greeted by a wonderful frosty morning and couldn't wait to get out !<br />
The sun was just rising and created a glorious glow upon the scenery around me .<br />

The colours are so different at this time of the year and painting with them was a new challenge for me. It took a lot of work but I'm happy with the result .<br />
